February 2021
Salutations, fellow horror freak…
And here we are, rolling and tumbling through 2021, scrambling for that light at the end of the tunnel we’ve all been promised. Let’s forget about such arbitrary numbers; there may be no finish line awaiting us out of the global mess of 2020’s pandemic, but rather a winding path through the trees, leading us out of this creepy, crawly forest of misfortune one step at a time.
However you and your loved ones have fared, whatever misfortune has befallen you, keep to your path. One foot in front of the other is all it takes – that, and some deep reserve of strength we all seem to have had to draw from ourselves of late. Keep walking, keep drawing, and doing the things that make you happy.
Which leads us nicely onto, you guessed it: HORROR.
What can I offer up this month? I feel like every time I write these blogs the main points of interest are the same flash fictions being featured in various online publications over and over again. While that’s fine, it’s losing its freshness.
If you disagree, then please find A Dying Moment featured in Sirens Call ezine, and The Thing Within in Coffin Bell Journal. This is my first time in Coffin Bell, a site I absolutely love, so I’m truly honoured. They also produce print anthologies at the end of each year, so this time next year you might be able to find my flash fictions in a physical collection.
Besides that, my non-fiction piece What is Horror? has been featured on Forever Endeavour. This is awesome as I’d like to get more of my articles out there into the world. Forever Endeavour is a great site for writers, with loads of resources and advice, so do check out the rest of the site.
As I mentioned last time, from February onwards I’ll be running FREEBIE-FOR-A-REVIEW-FRIDAY where you can win a free book from one of my writer peers delivered straight to your door. This is to raise awareness of how important reviews are to us indie authors, so if you’re willing to leave an honest Amazon/Goodreads review for one of these awesome writers, you could win yourself a free book! Connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to be in with a chance of winning. Keep your eyes open.
The final piece of news, and by far the most exciting, is that this month my publisher and I have been working with a designer on the cover to my debut horror novel FOR RYE, hitting your faces this April. I’m happy to tell you that the cover is now complete, and will be revealed on my social media channels soon. I’m also posting excerpts from the novel every Monday, so have a gander and see if it’s your kind of thing. (Spoiler: it so, so is.)
Anyway, that’s about it from me. I hope 2021 is treating you well, and if not, tell it to change its tune or it’ll have me to answer to.
Stay strong, and hit me up on social media with any news of your own, or any horror recommendations. I’d love to hear from you.
Many, many lovez to ya.
